I specialize in what I call “modern military marine paintings” in watercolor, capitalizing on my 24 years of service in the U.S. Navy and its Reserve and my love of that service.  Although my interest is in this genre, I also do portraits from life, paintings of your general aviation airplanes, your boats, and other marine paintings, preferring muscular, hardworking craft to boats under sail,  and landscapes and homes and buildings that interest me.   While in the navy one of my assignments was as a member of the crew of the USS Constitution (“Old Ironsides”) in Boston , the oldest commissioned ship in the service,  on aircraft carriers, and in the submarine community. I retired as a Senior Chief Petty Officer.

In my military marine paintings I try to accurately depict the workday life and operations on board modern U.S. Navy submarines, aircraft carriers and other ships of the fleet.  My aircraft carrier paintings combine both marine and naval aviation subjects, and portray the colorful, purposeful activities of the flight crews. Some of these paintings have won awards at prestigious shows.  I also do historical paintings of World War II, some of which have portrayed aviation action at the former U.S. Coast Guard Air Station on Salem Harbor in Massachusetts, and the Eighth Army Air Force in England. I try to vary my work from military paintings and do landscapes and other different paintings.

I am a native of Salem , Massachusetts , and a graduate of Kimball Union Academy, Brown University and Boston University Graduate School. I maintain a studio at my home in Marblehead and try to work every day on my current projects when I don’t succumb to the call of the golf course.  I also paint in oil and acrylics but have been painting exclusively in watercolor for the last five years.  I am a member of the American Society of Aviation Artists and the American Society of Marine Artists.  I am also an Artist Member of the Marblehead Arts Association and the Swampscott Art Association.  You can also see my work at  Deck Plate a site dedicated to surface warriors of the US Navy >deckplate.com
