I specialize in what I
call “modern military marine paintings” in watercolor, capitalizing
on my 24 years of service in the U.S. Navy and its Reserve and my love
of that service. Although my
interest is in this genre, I also do portraits from life, paintings of
your general aviation airplanes, your boats, and other marine paintings, preferring
muscular, hardworking craft to boats under sail, and landscapes and
homes and buildings that interest me. While
in the navy one of my assignments was as a member of the crew of the USS Constitution
(“Old Ironsides”) in In my military marine
paintings I try to accurately depict the workday life and operations on
board modern U.S. Navy submarines, aircraft carriers and other ships of
the fleet. My aircraft
carrier paintings combine both marine and naval aviation subjects,
and portray the colorful, purposeful activities of the flight crews.
Some
of these paintings have won awards at prestigious shows.
I also do historical paintings of World War II, some of which
have portrayed aviation action at the former U.S. Coast Guard Air
Station on I am a native of
